Default WTB: RV-12iS (S-LSA strongly preferred)

Haven't been able to find what I need and hoping to pick something up word of mouth. May consider E-LSA. 912ULS a non-starter for me. Thank you.

Howdy there;

Interesting that you want a 912 ULS. Lots of owners want to dump there 912 ULS because of all the rotax recalls on the crankshaft and hub.

Did you read that wrong, or did I....he said ULS was a NON-starter.

Correct. I DO NOT want ULS. Maybe I should have just omitted mention of it. I wasn't aware of the recalls, although have read and been told that iS more reliable...but mostly since my airport is based at 5600MSL and surrounded by mountains I want the higher performance capabilities of the iS.

I am curious why S-LSA is preferred over E-LSA. I thought the latter was more flexible because S-LSA cannot be maintained or modified without the manufacturers' permission. Whereas E-LSA can be maintained and modified the same as an EAB. You have obviously done your homework based on your posting and now I have my doubts about my understanding of the value and longevity of each type of LSA .

Thanks for your reply, Jim. The primary reason for the S-LSA preference is an opportunity to use the aircraft for some commercial purposes. It may not be a must in my mission, but could be helpful to me. Otherwise I'd be all over the E-LSA options or even just another RV model. I have a friend with a -10 that I've flown several times with him and I absolutely love these planes and love what Van's has done with the industry. Your assessment of the value of the E-LSA/EAB is likely spot on, especially for those who are handy and can do their own work.

Really do tell? Can you please reference all those recalls for me?
