Default Nose Pant 48-17 Step 3

So working on my nose wheel pant after ~10 years of flying because I am finally going to the paint shop. In trying to fit the pant with the measurements in step 3 I will have to cut a hole over an inch long in the rear pant for everything to line up. When looking at pictures of other 10s, it doesn't seem like that is normal.

Wanted to get some feedback before cutting that slot in the rear pant. (I do see where the graphic says Trim flange if/as needed, but mine just seems excessive.

thanks,

John
