Especially for an overseas transaction, in the absence of some kind of third party broker, I'd require a direct wire transfer to my bank account and send the item only after the bank confirms that the transaction is completed and irrevocable.

Good call, he already offered that as an option, I wasn't sure if that was safer. I'll all the bank and find out. He is buying damaged RV and collecting some bulky items to consolidate with a freight company out of Georgia to ship as one crate. I'll obviously validate that as well.

Default Scammed

Well, I'm an adult and can only blame myself. Scammed twice now.

Guess I'll be more careful.

Still not sure how it happened. I entered the correct email in PayPal that was sent to me and somehow it went to another guy. Of course I will never see the money again and the only thing I can do is hit my head on the door frame.

Don't guess it was worth trying to save a few bucks. Lesson learned for sure.

Obviously get the funds in hand in full including shipping. Transfer of large sums internationally requires special reporting. I recall $10,000 is the trigger.

My personal advice sell it to someone in the lower 48. You indicated he has some other item's and a combined shipment? Sounds like a pain in the back. I have sold items international and it's more work with customs forms. I don't do it anymore.

You know what WeChat or WhatsApp is? You can do a video face to face call (no charge) world wide. It may not garentee it's not a scam but may help ease your mind. Bottom line no money no prop. You are in the driver seat. Most scams are the seller not buyer, you send money and get no item..

Thanks George and I agree on all points, I'm wonder why I have no interest in the US. Prop is list for less than half retail. I asked this question in the prop section just now. I'd rather sell to a US buyer for sure and if it's price then I'll adjust.

Sadly, scams are so prevalent it really scares me off buying on line from private individuals. I usually try to get some verification of the individual if possible. I'm old eough to remember when your word was your bond but sadly I guess that doesnt work any more.

If it is too good to be true then it is too good to be true !
in my opinion , each seller should be vetted or give some references here with VAF members they know . there were times where i shipped items before even getting paid , and it worked just fine , as a matter of fact ,
I Sold an item over a year ago , i had some family issues where i had to leave the country or months , i comletely forgot that i sold the garmin autopilots, i even forgot to who i sold them to , i posted an ad in the classifieds section , the gentleman was honorable , saw the post , contacted me and sent me my check , there is still some outstanding people in this world , especially in the aviation industry.

This current (4/2/23) ad piqued my curiousity:

"GTN650 purchased in 2019 and installed in an RV9 which has yet to fly. Want to upgrade to xi."

Did I just read a plane that is not yet flying, 4 years after the purchase of the high end navigator, and the seller needs to upgrade it?

Then there's the low post count.

Smells fishy to me.

Note: Posting here just in case the actual classified is legit. But be sure to ask many questions on this one!

Default Another scammer

I got bit on the GTR200 that popped up yesterday (June 4) for $650. It was from a hijacked member profile. I missed the big red flag: the PayPal email was unrelated to the poster’s name.

Don’t PayPal any money to timmy.gally@icloud.com. It’s a scam.
