Lightbulb Modifications that you have Made to your RV-12 after Certification? E-LSA Only!

This new sticky thread is for Modifications Owners have made to their RV12 E-LSAs and would like to share them after they have received their Airworthiness Certificates. This way other Owners can see and find all the cool mods the people have made to their RV12s in one place. EABs, since you guys are in a different category please don't post here cause what you do may not be legal for a E-LSA. Let knowledge be shared!

Note: This new Sticky thread was discussed with Delta Romeo before being posted.

Nothing really special, but mtd a Zaon MRX in the panel that used to sit on glareshield of my 6A, and added 2" altimeter and airspeed indicators to the panel for redundancy in event of EFIS going dark.

Default Whow - Have done a few

1. Closed window, and installed Moeller Marine Fuel Gauge.
2. Installed Thermostasis Oil Thermostat.
3. Installed Heater Damper Door for colder climates.
4. Installed Reiff Pre-Heat System.
5. Put nutplates on filler neck to make removal easier.
6. Designed tapered steel pin to help install wings after seals installed.
7. Made Jack System for easy lifting.

Those are the main ones I can remember !

Default Modifications

Reiff pre-heat system
Moeller mechanical fuel gauge
Added one more hinge attachment point to move pilot's seat forward one more 'notch' and added a spacer to hold pilot's seat back a bit more forward (shorter pilot)
Added remote mounted oil pressure sender (Dynon's recommendations after the Honeywell unit failed.)
Wheel pants installed. (Lots of non-technical work, but plane looks a LOT better.)

Talking Added A canopy Lock.

Heres how we solved the lock problem. At Lowes we bought a standard Desk draw lock with a 1 inch shaft. We then drilled out a shaft diameter hole in the side of the fuse below the ?? Angle making up the upper edge. See the lock after mounting on the outside of the fuse.

Then we cut a channel in the top surface of the edge for the arm of the lock to come up through.

We then put a small length of ?? angle on the inside lower edge of the f the canopy frame.

Then we cut a slot in the arm of the lock to capture the piece of angle.

That?s it. Caution I would not buy the lock from Aircraft Lowes. It had too much play in it. But we made do with what we had.

Thumbs up What to do with that pesky oil cap

Here is a Mod we recently did. Since we keep our oil caps off longer than Lys or Cont we need a nice place to put it so we dont lose it or forget to put it back on. So my partner came up with this one.

See anything different about this door?

Added some clips

Now I wont lose it.

Now I wont forget to put it on.

HINT: Use those Reduced head flush Rivets so you dont have to worry about dimpling. Just a small amount of counter sink needed.

Default Mounting for Drift HD Camera on RV-12

This is a quick detach mounting for a Drift HD camera, mounted to the bottom of the wing on our RV-12. Rather than leave it on Video, I normally set it to take a picture every 10 seconds. My longest flight so far with the camera on was 2 1/2 hours. The battery lasted the whole time and it took over 900 pictures. We then download them to a computer and only save the best ones. By the way, this location for the camera keeps the propeller out of camera range.

This is a picture taken by the Drift Camera while I flew over the White Cliffs area of the Missouri River in Montana.

Default COLD AIR CURTAIN - -

I feel cold air coming forward from between the seats when cold weather. I have used a beach towel accross this same area, but I had this flexible, clear, vinyl, and cut it to fit. I put 4 rivets with washers to hold it in place. Could use screws. Can barely see it, so this angle reflects it some. I used shipping tape on each side to seal to floor. Can take it out in 2 minutes if needed. Might just leave it there except when tank needs to come out.

Thumbs up No more greasy roller bearings for me!

So I've been thinking about doing this for a while now and finally bit the bullet and went for it. I sent my main wheels off to Allen at AntiSplat in CA to convert over to sealed bearings and I couldn't be happier. I fly a lot, over 100 hours a year and do a lot of preventative maintenance. So now I don't have to keep a gunk tank full of NAFTA and grease on hand not to mention the big mess involved. Our nose wheels have sealed bearings in them. Those roller bearings seem so archaic, kind of like magnetos. Left over from WWII. These bearings are used on cars we drive and should last a life time on an Airplane. If anybody is interested in this mod just go to:

http://antisplataero.com/Main_Wheel_Bearing_Mod.html

A few shots of the process.

Final Product. Old versus New!

John,

I have serial number 711 and mine came with sealed bearings all around. Perhaps Van's fixed this? Maybe I'm mistaken.
