Pull rivet for aileron gap fairing next to SB bracket?

How did people set a solid rivet in the last hole of the aileron gap fairing - the one which is almost flush against the bracket installed as part of the aileron SB?

I am thinking of using either a LP4-4 or a MSP-42 rivet but not sure which one.

Service bulletin?

Nevermind, you are talking about the SB from 2016. Before my time. Sorry.

It is not easy and mine turned not pretty on the shop side. Unfortunately it is in such way that drilling it out is not easy and likely you will end up with even worse situation. I checked with VANS and they recommended that I call it good and move on considering the structure that is holding. Your idea of pop rivet is at least as sound as an ugly rivet.

In the end, I used a MSP-42.

It was pointed out in another forum that the quick build folks use MSP-42 in these exact holes! Look at page QBW-2 Step 11.

I also got a reply from Sterling who said the MSP-42 is a stronger rivet than the LP4, but either rivet would be acceptable in this location.

I used the Cherry Max CR3213 4-5 in that location.

It looks like you’ll be doing your bottom skins soon. Keep an eye on the j stiffener where it goes through the rib opening. Quite a few of mine rubbed so I removed some material from the rib.

I backriveted the j stiffener to the outboard skins before installing. Worked well and saved some time in the office chair looking at the ceiling. Only minor issue is you’ll need a Footed Bucking Bar to get at the one rivet just fwd of the j stiffener on each rib. Leave 6 or so rivets out of the inboard end for overlap, if you decide to go that route. Good luck,
Todd
