ETX-104

Unlike lead acid batteries, Lithium batteries will accept whatever charging
current that your alternator can put out. If the battery is discharged, then
the charging current will probably be too much for that small battery.
To limit charging current, put a diode in series with the battery, or whatever
the manufacturer's recommends.

That’s why I thought this seems like a good option. It has those protections built in. From EarthX: The ETX104 back up battery is a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) 4Ah battery designed to provide back up power to your critical loads, (essential power bus or emergency loads). This battery can be used with any size charging system due to the built in current limiting to protect it from high discharge/charge current. This is not a starter battery.

Our ETX battery series is fully protected by an integrated battery management system (BMS) that protects the cell’s from over discharge, over charge, short circuit, temperature, plus cell balancing to ensure charge levels are equal. Additionally, our ETX Hundred series batteries have redundant electronic circuits and battery fault indication. The fault indicator can be connected into your EFIS or wired to a 12volt LED light on your control panel (SOLD SEPARATELY) to alert you to the state of charge and state of health of the battery. (Please see manual for details)
