F-1073-R side skin trim question

Rick RV-4

Page 10-15 on the tailcone plans have you trim off the corner of the F-1073R. I'd rather ask twice and cut once, as they say! Before I cut this piece off, is that really correct?

Also, just curious what the reason is for this (why you do this on one side but not on the left).

Thanks!

Yes, the right side gets trimmed flush. The right side of the plane joins to the fuselage along the bulkhead in a straight line.

The baggage door on the left side isn’t a square, it’s five sided. The left triangle runs along the edge of the door and helps to stiffen the connection. I don’t know why they didn’t make it overlap on both sides to make it extra strong, but you are correct. Trim the right side and leave the left triangle attached.

It's not completely flush: there's a slight angle to clear the tabs on the bulkhead (page 10-15 step 1). Just getting to this point myself.
