duckworks light deep inside

I installed a Duckworks landing light in my left wing over the weekend. One thing that surprised me is how deep inside the leading edge the light is mounted, as per their instructions. Wouldn't more light be cast if they were mounted closer?

Yes, it might. But then it might also throw more light out to the sides where you really don't need it. Flicker off the back of the prop disc isn't so good for night vision.

That's my best guess.

Room for Lense Installation

I believe the setback is based on the room needed to get the lense in and out. Of course, I could be TOTALLY wrong on that, but seems to make sense.

I think Brian hit the nail on the head with the prop reflection. I know that the wing lights on the certified singles are set back far enough (or are far enough out on a longer wing) so as not to cause this distraction. That'd be the reason if you ask me since the RV wings are so short.
