Super RV-7 Engine Mount

SuperRV7

I'm New Here
I am looking for help/information in regards to getting an engine mount welded up? Changing the original Dynafocal 1 engine mount from an RV-7 to installing a Lycoming 540 engine mount ring on it. Anyone know who could do this job? There used to be a guy in Indiana who welded up my old one but he passed away. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Super 7 Mount

I believe the Super 6 mount should work, Bob Mills has the original Super 6
Guessing he can help
The 7 mount fits the 6

I'd check with the local EAA chapter. Remember, it was not that long ago that virtually all homebuilt kits were just sticks of raw 4130 stock and a set of blueprints. Changing out a dynafocal ring would be childsplay to anyone who has built a Starduster, Skybolt, Pitts, Tailwind, etc.

Thank you, any contact information for Bob Mills, or Russ McCutcheon?

I suspect Bob may not have the info you are asking about, he did not build the plane.

Steve Barnes might be a better person to ask.

You might try to find Tom Hallendorf in Georgetown CA--------pretty sure he is the one who made Bobs plane, and drew the plans Steve built his plane from. Sorry, cant find his contact info at the moment. Check with Bob Mills, I gave it to him a couple years ago.

Steve Loree may have been the person who welded the mount for Tom-----just a guess. http://www.loreeair.com/

Motor Mount

I have and own the O540 mount fixture that you are reffering to. I built tacked and welded my mount for my Super 8 on it in John Marshall's garage. The fixture is setup to do both 8 and 7 RV's.

Now that is an important piece of information!

When doing this, how much shorter is the mount, where does the prop flange of the crank move out to from stock? main question is, what changes to the cowl will be needed, longer?

Great Question,130 to 140 extra pounds on the front. What other mods are required, Landing gear?SJ cowl? With batteries getting lighter some of the old tricks may not apply?

Verlyn Mc Intosh made many mounts for Christen Eagles to convert to from an IO-360 to a 540. I would think he could do the same for a RV7. On the Eagle's the firewall was moved back and the mount was purposefully shorter to adjust Cg. The effect was such that the 540 prop flange ended up at the same station in relation to the airframe as the IO-360's flange.
