Riveting ribs aft ribs to main spar

I know there are many techniques for this and Wirejock has mentioned a nice one to me also. However i was curious. Say for some idiotic reason you wanted to squeeze them. Has anyone found a longeron yoke large enough to get around the flange of the main spar?


I thought about a 3 inch alligator squeezer but doubt that would work either.

More just a curiosity question. I will most likely end up using the dreaded offset set and doing it the normal way but is there something out there i wonder!

long straight rivet set

I didn't use the "dreaded offset rivet set" to attach the ribs to the main spar. I used a 12" long straight set. You can push the rib sideways a bit to clear the rivet gun.

Whatever method you choose, practice on scrap first. You don't want smileys on your ribs.
But my solution is best!

Ditto. Definitely. Used these anywhere I had "high stress" riveting to do, including especially the wing ribs. Greatly increased my riveting quality/success rate over the masking tape method. And, worked very well with my short offset set.

the caps are for sure on order!
I don't think i would even try without them.
