What did you do with your RV this weekend? (12/4/21-12/5/21)

An RV-15 Teaser

The forecast is for a major storm this week so I seized on a short notice picnic in the backcountry. I invited Vlad but believe it or not he is on a real non-flying vacation.
We left Pagosa Springs, Co, rounded the La Platas near Durango and flew up the Co Ut border to Gateway Co. approx 1.5 hrs each way.
Dolores Point is just west of Gateway at 7200 ft. The strip was in great condition, albeit the most slope I’ve encountered so far.
Mark Guenin took the photos from his Glastar. Ted Waltman joined us in his Outlaw III from north of Monroe’s.
The airport at the end is Telluride.
Enjoy

Early Saturday cruisin!

Pilot Mtn NC

went for a cruise to check the burned area around Pilot Mountain. TFR topped out at 3500 so I made sure to be well above that. No action anyway, no sign of anything still burning.

1000+ acres burned. Apparently someone was camping in an undesignated spot and left a campfire. NC is in a pretty serious drought right now, particularly in the Piedmont area. Statewide burn ban etc. Inexcusable, really criminal, to do something like this.

Fantastic Flying RV Weekend on the East Coast

The flying weather on the east coast this weekend – Dec 4-5 – was exceptionally good: light winds, clear skies, smooth air, outstanding visibility, a little cool but not cold. The RVs at Essex Skypark took full advantage both days. On Saturday three of us flew down Delmarva (Delaware-Maryland-Virginia) peninsula to Jamestown Airport then to Suffolk Airport for lunch. We flew back up barrier islands on the Delmarva peninsula. On Sunday we had seven planes (4 RVs) fly up the Jersey Coast, then Hudson River corridor to Sky Acres Airport and restaurant, then back. Here are a few of the many good shots that were taken.

Nice flight to KACK for the Christmas Stoll

I took my bride to rub shoulders with the billionaires out at Nantucket this weekend for the 47th annual Christmas Stroll. It was her first ride in the RV with the new engine and prop - she approved! As mentioned in a previous post, the wx was spectacular this weekend for December flying in the North East. Overall a terrific day of enjoyment with the RV. Next time I go to KACK, I'll have to bring my jet! :)

Hi Brian, Me likey that picture of you on short final. How did you attach that mirror?? I've been wanting to attach a mirror, but I don't know how to make that clip thingy like you've got.

My first solo flight after transition training.

Finally I can contribute to this thread. After a long extensive rebuild of my RV6A, I flew solo last Sunday. What a thrill!

Vegas for the Pac-12 Championship.

With the weather looking perfect for an RV-10 flight from Salt Lake to Las Vegas to see our Utah Utes play in the Pac-12 Championship, we loaded up and spent the weekend there. I think all of Utah came to that game.
2 hour flight was so smooth and easy, landing at Henderson, NV.
Utah played great and won their first championship. Rose Bowl against Ohio St next!
Also saw the show KA on Saturday night which was cool. As an engineer, I was watching the stage most of the time and was not surprised to have a 20 minute break during the show when the stage broke. Such a complex stage.
GO UTES!

My in-laws summer on Nantucket. I cannot wait to get my RV done and fly in there. Looks like a great day!

New camera installed

Since I am now flying - finally, I mounted a camera to prove to my friends who said I would never finish my plane! It only took 9 years!!! It is a gopro Max 360 and it is pretty amazing. I am still learning how to use the software to edit and I need to align it better but it still gives fun video.

This is on a flight over my house (2:16) and part way back to the airport. It is pretty boring to watch but it shows some of what the camera can do. I cant wait till I get a flyable day to make another video!

And Scott - great pictures and family. Have a Merry Christmas! We will be in SLC for Christmas this year with one of our daughters and her family.

Yes, it’s an amazing camera. Very interesting. Thanks for posting. Incidentally, do you by any chance have a heavy left wing?

Do you have a feel for how long a video (in time) you can make with this camera on it' sown internal battery power?

How did you control it - did you run wires out the wing? Or is it done with a Smartphone?

The important part is you didn't quit! It took me 8 years, don't feel too bad.
