oil strainer crush gasket

If you’re talking about the suction screen, your link does show one. “18” right below 19.

Warning

Clicking on the link in post 1 will attempt to load a program called "Margefrick" or something close.

isn't item 15 the plug which holds the suction screen in? It has different safety wire holes than item 19. Shouldn't the crush gasket be between items 15 and 14?

Mike, The link is to the Imgur image hosting site

The image was up there for a short time, then the computer went into a loop of install this, or not--------clicking no, or Xing out only restarted the loop.

Control Alt Delete finally got me out of it.

yeah, thanks. Looks like the 390 has a couple of additional parts vs. the 360 (items 13 and 15 on the 390 drawing).

For some reason they didn't show the 390 plug and gasket in line with the suction screen like they do on the 360

Has anyone here removed the screen from an IO390? are those 2 parts (13 and 15) attached to the screen when you remove it?

Actually, looking closer at item 15, it looks like an optional plug to replace the standard cap to which you can attach a hose for some other purpose

Item 13 and 15 are exactly the same on the 390 as they are with 360. Item 13 is the screen itself and 15 is the plug. I have removed and inspected it. The copper washer is also the same as the IO360 and as mentioned below a 1" slip copper washer.

To safety wire this in a 14/14A will test one's patience.

Wouldn't it be nice if they would simply list the standard hardware number (ie. AN900-xx) where applicable?

George

The applicable parts depend on what variant of the IO-390-A you have, e.g., -A1A6, -A3A6, -A1B6, or -A3B6. See the pics below from the IO-390-A Parts Catalog. But it still doesn't make total sense to me. For the -A3B6 they can't use them all, so the table may be in error. But you'll need the crush gasket.

Carl is spot on -- You need an AN900-16 crush gasket (06E19769-1.00). By the way, did anyone else notice parts 12, 16, 17 in these drawings? Those are for the AEIO-390-Axxx variant; part of the remote connection.

I think this sheet was cut/pasted from the AEIO parts manual and they didn't update the parts list.

Be careful out there...

While we are on the subject, is there a correct way to install the crush washer? Which way does the seam face?
Thanks
Erich

The broken side of the washer goes towards the stationary part, in this case the engine case. Hand tight and then three flats or 135 degree turn.

Crush Washer

You want the seam against the sump. The plug rotates against the copper, not against the rubber seam. Snug 120 degrees after contact. Don't over tighten. Safety wire, then check for leaks.

Sump

Some of the components in post 12 and 14 are for the inverted oil system found on AE IO series engines. For aerobatic engine plug with o ring is installed befor screen then fitting for hose replaces cap. Screen for acro setup is shorter than standard screen.
