Stainless Steel Cabin heat box alert

Greenley

Well Known Member
Doing my first condition inspection on my RV-10. Found the front cabin heat had quit working, the cause was that the control arm had detached from the swing door in the stainless steel after market heat control box I had used. After spending three hours removing the control box, I could see that the tack welds on the control arm had barely discolored the swing door. There was no penetration on the weld. I sure wish I had given this a good pull to check when I was building. This was a lot of work to remove and reinstall. The welding to do the repair was easy.

I had the same issue in one of my door. I was able to rivet the arm back on without dismantling it from the firewall. It can be done in a -10.
