Fwd door lock installation

Hi Guys.

I am in the process of constructing the fwd door. The plans tell you to wait until the inner skin is more or less riveted on prior to installing the lock and latch pins and then safety wiring them into place. It means trying to work through a 1.5” diam hole.

Any reason for this? Any reason this step can’t be achieved prior to the installation of the inner skin? It seems to be making it harder than it needs to be, and I can’t see why!

Any input would be appreciated.

The alignment of the latch pin to the latch-block is a time consuming process to ensure a good fit. If something is moved after you fitted the latch mechanism, it will be a another PIA process to redo everything again. It's a PIA step and I hate to do it the 2nd time.
