Electronic Checklist? Memo Pad?

My EFIS (Dynon D-100) includes the ability to insert five menus, each menu can have five lists - for a total of 25 pages of information. Dynon suggests that these can be used for storing checklists, emergency procedures, radio frequencies, etc. With 200+ hours on my plane, I haven't put any information in these pages yet.

What do you keep in your EFIS?

Hey Scott,
My MGL Voyagers have the same capability...but for some reason I can't break away from the paper checklist. I really want to, though! I've created checklists on my EFIS, but have yet to use them.

Yep, I am the same way------

And, I still look at the backup steam gauges first, but I am working on breaking that habit.

Me too! I failed miserably at breaking this habit until I physically covered the steam gauges with some of those practice partial-panel covers. Even then, it took a LOOONG time, and I even kept checking the plastic covered gages before the glass each time I looked inside. Old habits die SLOOOWLY.

True, specially for us old farts.......

But, it is nice to have them when I set the GRTs to 1. Map. and 2. Engine instrumentation.

Louise uses nothing but the electronic checklists on her Dynon's in the -6, but I still have a tough time adapting to them, even though we have the capability in the -8 (GRT's) and will in the -3 (G3X). I have used "intelligent" electronic checklists in aircraft that are fully integrated, and they are great - line items go away as you configure the aircraft for the appropriate phase of flight, and when th page is blank, you are ready to go. But with a simple text display, I find that the loss of the display real estate (to see the checklist) interferes with configuring things for flight, so unless I have a completely separate display for the checklist, I would rather use paper. I am much faster with paper checklists tan I am with electronic in my day job as well (two different vehicles with two different philosophies...).

Call me a Luddite I suppose...but I have adapted pretty well to all the other new technologies!

I'm all for the electronic checklists but I'd still keep a backup checklist somewhere perhaps... What if you lose your EFIS and need to take a quick peek at one for reference?

If you're a real gadget geek like me, you can put a backup one into your smartphone, ipad, ect... just a thought!

Now, THAT'S what I'm talking about!

Thanks Caveman! That's the kind of info I'm looking for.

Some time ago someone here mentioned that these planes are so easy to fly, there's almost no need for a checklist. I agree with that sentiment most of the time. But there's always going to be a time when it's good to have the checklist handy - such as a rushed departure, emergency situation, unfamiliar airport, etc...

I have a basic mantra that I go through in preparation for each phase of flight, but if I get thrown off that mantra, I want to have something solid to fall back on.

(PS - this thread is about Checklist and other data on your EFIS. If you want to start a discussion about usage of checklists, start your own thread!;) - uh oh - here come the flames!)

You might try checking with Dynon, see if they have a generic list, and then modify it to suit your needs.

That is what I did with my GRT's, then I printed out the list also.

As I said before, I find the paper easier to use.......but also easier to lose or misplace too.

Good to have both.

D100 lists

What do you keep in your EFIS?

I've got the D100 and use it every flight for prior to start, startup, and runup checklists. Have other checklists in there and used other page(s) to list airspeed and engine parameter limits but find that I don't actually look at those much, if ever, in flight. Good place to keep some basic POH type data though.

I use electronics checklists all the time in my Europa. I do keep paper copies in the cockpit too.

The neat thing with GRT, is you can have the actual value display. For example, OIL PRESS > 50 XX XX is the actual value of oil pressure at that time.
