First engine run-up

I started the engine for the first time yesterday. The engine has around 900 hrs on it:

Most of things went well, but 2 things that are puzzling me:

1. The indicated oil pressure was only 20PSI. The rpm's I ran then engine at was in between 800 and 1400.
2. This might not be so puzzling, but the machanical fuel pump did not work at all. I will remove it today and order a new one.

The electrical fuel pump was able to produce 9 PSI, and if I left it on it would flood the card and the engine would stop. That doesnt seem normal to me..or? Shouldnt the need valve be able to prevent more fuel getting into the carb?

I have the Dynon Skyview system with all the sensors that came with it. I would appreciate some input regarding the oil pressure issue. Next weekend we will try to hook on a mechanical gage, to see if there is any difference. As far as I remember I should have been able to see around 55PSI at those low rpm's...

Bleeding the OP line before start ...

If you did not bleed the air out of the oil pressure line before start, you'll not get accurate OP readings. The best way to bleed it is to remove the OP hose from the sensor manifold; then kill the mags and/or EIs, pull one plug on each cylinder, and crank the engine til oil flows out the OP hose. Then quickly reconnect it to the sensor manifold. Sometimes the process is easier with a helper.

Bleeding

Thanks for the advice. I will try to get that done!

It was less noisy than expected. The one guy in the movie clip that is drinkng a soda is one of my neigbors. He really onjoyed it!!

Airbox

What mods have you done to the front of the airbox? Not familiar with the 7A but I think the cowls are the same as my 9A. Something you've modified to make removal of the cowl easier?

Air filter box

Yes, I modified the air filter box. I do have the James cowl, but it is similar. On the cowl side I have a flat plate with an oil and fuel proof rubber pad, that meets up with the air filter box when the cowl is installed. This takes all the fiddling away when you install the lower cowl! :)
It is roughly angled at 45 degrees.

airbox

It appears that you have a gap between the bottom of the airfilter and the airbox. That could cause a lot of problems. The filter needs t o be squeezed between the bottom of the airbox and the top plate for the engine to run properly. a friend of mine had that problem and finally had to rebuild the airbox. It solved the problem.

AIR FILTER

No, the top and bottom of the filter is "jammed" in between the upper and lower part of the filter box, no gaps. When I trimmed the fiberglass part, I put the filter in and made sure it sealed up properly!
