Rudder pedal friction

tomkk

Well Known Member
I just mounted my rudder pedal assembly. After torquing the 6 attachment bolts I find that there's quite a bit of friction on pedal movement. The pedals aren't frozen by any means but there's a lot more friction than I expected.

The pedals have no powder coat where the mounting pads are so that's not the problem. I also put a light coat of grease on the pads before assembling.

Does that sound normal?

Friction

Tom,
Mine were tight as well. But it all comes together and works out, once you get them all rigged with cables.

Did you install the the required washer between the nylon block halves?
That's it. When I looked at the figure I thought that washer was between the block and the firewall. I can see it's between the block halves.

Thank

I also put a light coat of grease on the pads before assembling.

Does the manual call for lubricating the pedal blocks ('pads')?

I would do that with great caution to ensure that any grease applied doesn't react to the plastic blocks and of course dirt etc will stick to the grease and may cause wear.
