Carpet or painted floor?

LanceH

I'm New Here
I’m a new owner of a 2011 RV-12, with the Flightline interior package. The floor carpets are wearing out and losing their ability to stay put. While considering how to fix or replace them, my CFI suggested removing the carpet and foam and fly with just bare or painted floor, since the RV seemed to require a lot of rudder use and no carpet would likely stay put. Before proceeding, wanted to get other’s feedback on this. It feels a little odd (to me) to have nothing on the floor, but maybe its the way to go?

Half our planes have carpet, half painted floors. The painted floors don’t absorb spoiled brake fluid, that’s what I can tell you….. ;)

RV-8, primed and top coated with PPG single stage like the rest of the interior. For under the heels I added some self adhesive no slip vinyl strips (~4” wide).

RV-10, front is the same as the RV-8. For the rear primed and top coated with PPG single stage, then indoor/outdoor carpet from the aviation department at Lowes. Same for get the baggage area.

I replace the carpet and it has been improved by Abby

I asked Abby (Flight line) for SLSA version that you see in the factory planes. I like that carpet better than the full spread. It looks a little more rugged and has held up really well....no slipping, rock solid.
I provided a template for the baggage floor, which worked out great. I really like the look of the interior, along with the arm rest that match the seats. Abby did an excellent job.

I've had carpet since new (seven years) and they're fine and add a nice finish touch to the interior. I bought small clear mats to catch dirt/drips and they are easy to clean and look great (about $10 @ Walmart).

Floor boards

Added floor boards…now my feet ride about 3/4” above belly skin. Not quieter, but I don’t feel the vibration/heat from exhaust.
