General Shop Table - Overhaul

HFS

Well Known Member
Here are some pics of one of my general shop tables built back in 1981:

Size: 4' x 8' Working Height: 36"

Fixed center section, with replaceable outer "wings" made from pre-made, melamine covered 12" shelving.

21 drawers

5" locking rollers

"umbilical" for electrical power & air

I replace the wings every six months or so (two uses for each wing), and refurbish & repaint the center section on condition.

YMMV - and probably will.

If I got the sequence right - pics should be: Before, During, & After

That white melamine-covered material makes excellent work bench tops. Easy to clean and doesn't hold metal chips. Out here, the big box stores carry it in 49" x 97" pieces (so that cabinet makers can get 4' x 8' in cut pieces allowing for the kerfs, I think).

And don't use this for kitchen cabinets, it works but it's the wrong thing. Use plank wood or plywood.

Large riveter???

Good looking shop! Can you tell us more about the larger C-frame riveter? It would appear to have a cloth over the pneumatic portion? Did you buy that somewhere or fabricate it your self?
