Dumb Cutting Mistake

I accidentally cut the tab off the left tail cone skin instead of the right. (The tab that doubles with the fuselage skin at the baggage door)

Can someone please advise on how critical a mistake this is? Can the piece that I cut be spliced back or do I need a new skin?

I tried to look at the tail to fuselage attachment plans online and cannot determine a structural value. I did see that the tail tab is under the fuselage skin and therefore should be easy to splice unnoticeably.

Please advise.

Thanks

This is one where you should call the factory------the tab carries a lot of load (due to the baggage door opening) that the other side of the fuse doesn't see.

I suspect that the size of the splice piece needed will surprise you.

Good luck,

I'm afraid that unless you put the splice attachment on the outside (which would look awful) it will interfere with other structure when placed on the inside. Unless Van's can come up with a creative solution, you will probably have to replace.
