Antisplat main wheel bearing mod

TJCF16

Well Known Member
I recently had the main bearing Mods done on my wheels. Alan said they need to be used with the old quarter inch spacers. However if I put those spacers on there is no room to put the nut on. Not sure what to do. If I put the wheel on without the spacers everything works. Does anyone out there have this mod and know what they do. I know Alan is having a rough time right now didn?t wanna bother him.

Washers Used

I have the mod on my 9A, using both washers. Works great.
My question: Where is your cotter pin hole drilled?

With no tweaking required, the mod worked perfectly on my bird.

Anti Splat Bearing Mod

Just did this a couple months ago on Bayou Bert?s 9A main wheels. We reinstalled the 1/4? spacers just like they were previously installed with the stock tapered roller bearings. I may have enlarged the cotter pin holes in the nut a tiny bit. Old mechanics do two things here to make installing the cotter pin easier- grind the split end of the cotter pin on a bench grinder to a point (you going to cut the ends off anyway) and put a little bend in the middle of the cotter pin (like a banana but less).
