OK, I've got the forward frame bend about right, and the side skins sit flush against longerons. The problem lies with the gap between the forward canopy frame skin and the forward top fuselage skin. Top and center my gap is 3/32". Left side gap is 1/16". Right side gap is good.

I have tweaked it substantially, and am running out of ideas. Shall I build on?

Canopy skin fit

Hi Sid, I merely added a few layers of Bidirectional cloth and epoxy to provide a nice match. You might alsoi consider adding a "skirt" on the sides to prevent water leaking in when parked on a ramp. The faired skins are not too difficult. Hopes this provides some ideas,

Some ideas

Some ideas to look at:

Have you already drilled off the hinges?
Check with the gas struts in place as this will move everything forward. BE careful with this to make sure it doesn't catch on the forward lip when opening for the first time though
Check underneath forward of the E/W rib of the frame to make sure it is not touching on the seal lip.

Failing this some further 'finessing' maybe be required by checking the forward top skin positioning.

Cheers, Greg RV-7A

Like others said - build on.

The canopy fit really does change here and there as you take it on and off, doing various steps. Until you get it done, with struts and rubber seals, it will drive you nuts with endless shape shifting.

Canopy skin gap

I agree, build on. Besides, you'll need some gap here so the mid section of the canopy skin doesn't catch the forward skin as the canopy rotates up. This gap can be custom filled with microballoons after everything is riveted down.

See my initial gap here: https://picasaweb.google.com/mikerv9a/Canopy#5224817932676738386

I placed duct tape along the canopy front skin, then filled with micro on the forward skin to achieve a perfect fit when the canopy is closed:

OK, I'm building on...

Gents,
Thanks, I'm settled down a bit and will continue building. THanks for the follow-up remedies if the gap doesn't seal itself.
