Alvord Desert Eclipse

I could be wrong, but I think all of the dry lake is well outside of the eclipse totality band.

Yes, it is quite a ways south of the Totality band. If I didn't already have a spot in Independence for the event, I would have thought about Alvord as well. My concern would be just how many airplanes are going to be looking for places to land up there!

I have seen one other near-total eclips in my life, and what was most impressive was the total silence at the time - the entire world went silent. I'd thought about seeing this one from teh air, but you'd miss that incredible moment. Just seeing the corona - I can get that from pictures. But the net effect of being on the ground during totality - that is an experience....
