I bought a Cole receptacle for ground use. There are no bolts to attach the wires. There is a hole which suggest maybe solder but it is 4 AWG wire. I thought about tapping it but I wonder if it will that the stress. How did ya'll do it?

I’m thinking about having this too on my new RV8. Are there any considerations about needing a doubler? Is there a best place to locate it on the exterior? Is it always installed with a ground power contactor?

MIne is on the belly, next to the rear-mounted battery in my -8. Yes, I used a doubler because it is a big unit, and yes, I used the contactor as Nuckoll’s shows in his drawing.

What I am trying to ask is how do you attach a wire to this thing? I have asked several A&P's nobody knows.

Look at step 3 in the doc gasman posted. You’ll end up with one of those toilet bolts sticking out of the end. I attached my wire to this bolt via a regular ring terminal. Attached a ground strap to one of the mounting bolts.

I attached mine to the engine mount via adel clamps. Accessible via oil door. Just another way to mount it.

I think from the manufacturers data sheet the receptacle is designed to have a 1/0 gauge wire soldered in the provided large solder cup. It would be pretty easy to have a short length of 1/0 wire run to the external power relay for simplicity especially if the receptacle and relay were close to each other.
