scothbrite 6" deburring wheel

Deburring wheels

3M has a variety of deburring wheels this size. They are made of different materials and have different hardnesses. Some are aluminum oxide, some are silicon carbide and possibly others. Some people claim you need to stick with aluminum oxide because you are deburring aluminum parts and silicon carbide would impregnate your aluminum and cause dis- similar metal corrosion. I’m not a believer in that theory but many people are. When you are deburring you are removing metal, not really applying it to the surface.

At any rate you may want to try another wheel but none of them are cheap although you might get the price down to maybe $70 or $80 instead of $100. You might try other brands and personally I hate paying 3M’s prices but their products are usually the best. Sorry there doesn’t seem to be a magic bullet.

The Scotchbrite wheel that "everybody" uses works well and will easily last the life of the build. Probably several builds. If the cost of that wheel is deterring you at this point, you've got some nasty surprises in store for you down the road. :D
