What does the "Y" signify in the engine type?

Also... what type of forward facing sump is used on this engine?

I thought this is just the name for all the M1B engines that Lycoming sell to Vans Aircraft as experimental engine.

Seems Lycoming markets these engines as "X", while the same engine marketed by Van's get a "Y" prefix. Van's is the only place I have seen the "Y" designation. Perhaps a licensing thing, or maybe just a way of keeping track of the engines sold thru Van's.

Lycoming use the letter Y to their Experimental engines.
Superior use XP for their Experimental engines.
ICI Titan use EXP for their Experimental engines.
