Shipping Costs

For those of you that have received tail kits - would you mind telling me what the shipping charges were? Especially to the east coast.

$175 to abf terminal near my house in Chicago area. saved about $60 by going to abf's terminal to get it in my case that was only a few miles., its about 10 foot long and maybe 3.5 or 4 wide about a foot tall, 2 guys can move it no problem 210lbs.

I had it shipped to Central Florida. It shipped to my place of business, so it was cheaper than a residential delivery. It was $250.80. It was ABF just like most others.

ABF's website will provide quotes:

https://www.abfs.com/tools/ltlquotes/default.asp?NCHK=HPTL

and Van's website provides shipping crate sizes and weights:

http://www.vansaircraft.com/pdf/weights.pdf

You can get quotes from the ABF site but they are pretty much meaningless because Vans has a negotiated discount that is pretty significant based on the shipments I have received. I have found that I was able to estimate mine more closely based on what others have paid for the same sub kits shipping to similar regions of the country.

Thanks for all the replies,,,

Thanks. The reason I asked is --- Van's had told me to expect a call from ABF - but instead the call came from Fedex Freight. They told me the charges would be $620! After I got up from the floor I called Van's - they said "big mistake", the charge should actually be $220 and they will straighten it out. I'll find out for sure on Tuesday when the kit gets here. John
