Snow trip

My wife wants to see snow, possibly around the New Year timeframe. Southeastern US. Need suggestions for airport and lodging. Will most likely rent a car in the area. Ski areas would be great but not necessary. Go!!

Snowshoe, WV is a nice ski area. Fly into Lewisburg, WV (KLWB) and its about a 45 min drive to snowshoe. You could also stay at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs about 15 mins, it’s a big spa and casino. Plus it has some historical secrets from the Cold War. Of course Lewisburg is also a nice quiet little town.

Not far from Lewisburg is Hot Springs, VA (KHSP) it has the Homestead resort and spa. Never been there but I here it’s very nice. Airport is on top of a mountain.

Jackson Hole Ski Resort in Wyoming is the place to go in the west.

Aspen and Telluride also have airports close by.

Wx is the issue at all 3. Best to fly commercial.

New England and Vermont have lots of ski hills. Jay Peak in Vermont - make sure they have snow and a place to stay.

Love Jackson!

Flew the big jet in there many times over a 10 year period and it was probably my favorite place to go. Winter or summer

He's located in SW Florida.

I remember being quite pleased with Maggie Valley NC. You could fly into Jackson County (24A) or Asheville (AVL) The Biltmore is normally very nice during Christmas. It's not much of a ski area, but the Cataloochee is nearby. There was a snow tubing hill in town too.

For a better ski area experience, a bit further NE is Banner Elk, NC and the Beech Mountain Resort. There are a couple of private airports in the area, but you could land at Elizabethton (0A9) or Avery County/Morrison (7A8).

None of these ski areas compare with anything up in the NE or out west. But if you're looking to frolic in some snow and have some fun, these places will do.
