Moving your aircraft out of the way of a hurricane

If you are in the path of one of the incoming hurricanes, we hope you are staying safe. We also wanted to remind you that many aviation insurance policies will reimburse you to move your aircraft out of the path of a named hurricane or wind storm if possible. Each company is different, but several offer a reimbursement program. These companies would rather pay the reimbursement expenses (usually up to a set limit) rather than pay for a totaled aircraft. If you?re wondering if your insurance company partakes in a program like this, it will be listed in your policy. You can also contact your insurance broker for more information.

If you are unable to move your aircraft and need to turn in a claim, here are numbers for the companies we insure Vans Aircraft through:

? Global Aerospace - 913-451-9660 or 888-228-2281
? AIG - 866-463-0408 / [email protected]

Looking Florence in the eye (literally)?

Right now we have five or six city-owned T-hangars sitting empty at 08A. Call the airport manager, Lynn Weldon, if you wish to ask about using one for a few days. If by chance she tells you there are no hangars available, I'd like to know.

Yeah. I left the RV in Asheville this week and drove my commute to Chapel Hill instead.
I am not a hurricane worrier since I have seen many but this one has me concerned on the scale of Hugo which was a disaster in NC. I suspect I will be driving home to AVL Thursday with my mom in tow in order to get her out of harms way.

And don't forget the hurricane relocation list at:

Please add your info to that thread if you can offer a spot.

I've posted to that thread (hangar/bedrooms just north of Jackson MS) but I don't show up in the list that's spread across the 1st 3 posts. Perhaps there are others that haven't been added. [ed. Correct. It's just tagged on to the end like any other thread. The whole thread is only 9 pages, so you can scan it pretty fast. v/r,dr]
