Dear Fellow RV Pilots in the Utah Area:
The Backcountry Santa Pilots are excited to announce a charity flight to the Navajo Nation on the morning of Monday, June 1, 2020. The Indian Law section of the Utah State Bar has gathered necessities to distribute to the members of the Navajo Nation, who are disproportionately suffering from the ravages of COVID-19.
I'm an RV-12 pilot based at KSLC and would LOVE to see the RV community join in on the fun and good cause.
The donated supplies will assist those members of the Navajo Nation in Southern Utah. These communities are some of the most remote native communities in Utah and are at times underserved in times of need.
If you are willing to volunteer your time and RV, we could use your assistance flying donated cleaning supplies, food, toilet paper, and other items to Blanding, Montezuma Creek, and Navajo Mountain. Backcountry-capable pilots/aircraft will fly supplies to dirt airstrips at Montezuma Creek and Navajo Mountain, and pilots/aircraft better suited to paved runways will fly supplies to Blanding for further shuttling to Montezuma Creek and Navajo Mountain by backcountry-capable pilots/aircraft. The mission will depart from Salt Lake International Airport early in the morning of June 1. If the June 1 date does not work due to weather, the backup date is Wednesday, June 3.
The safety of everyone involved is of utmost importance. We will provide a pilot safety briefing to participating pilots that includes precautions for safe flight operations and COVID-19 safety practices that include social distancing requirements and appropriate limitations on interacting with the members of the Navajo Nation.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! This is a fantastic opportunity to fly over beautiful Utah and serve those in need at the same time.
