Effect of Wing/Fuselage Rubber Seals on Stall

I have an RV9. Recently the rubber seal at the wing root came loose; i removed it and flew on for several hours while awaiting delivery of the replacement part and warmer weather. In my experience, stalls with those seals installed were rarely preceded by much of a buffet; however I noticed that - during full stall landings - deep into the flare (and later during stalls at altitude, for confirmation) WITHOUT the seal give a definite buffet a good couple of seconds and maybe 2 - 3 mph IAS before the actual break. Maybe we ought to leave those pesky rubber seals (or at least one of them) off so as to get a bit more warning before the stall break. Comments?
