Engines are getting expensive!

Becoming a concern because I am getting closer to needing one. It seems like the engine prices have gone up around 30-40% over the last 5 years. Much more than inflation. Anyone know what's going on (or want to speculate) and what to expect going forward?

Most people are like me. Given the choice of sitting at home looking at the wife and kids or building, I think I would be inclined to be ordering an engine too.
But I love my wife and kids, but 12 months continuous????
