Install new Fuel Sender Unit

Hi there,

is it possible to install a new fuel sender untit without removing the whole tank?
Is there enough workspace between tank and fuselage?

Any clues?

Working from the bottom

it has been done --- I believe there was a thread on this, somewhere.

There was a SB sometime back about securing the fuel pick-up tube which required removal of the access cover and fuel pick-up tube. The published technique, as I recall, included detailed instructions which should be of use to you. Check 6 Sb's on Van's site...from perhaps 5-8 years ago.

It can and has been done. However, it is MUCH easier to remove the tank and do it off airframe.

The -6 doesn't have as much room between the tank and fuselage as on later models.

Sender

Found thread with detailed instructions for the change. Seems many have done it with tank on the wing, fairly easily. Most recommend no washer/gasket.

Sender change

Pull the tank as it's much easier. Just replaced both on a 6a and I'm glad I did. It's easier to seal it while it's off too.
