Create shade at OSH for low wings?

WISC

Well Known Member
My son and I are planning on flying to OSH for the first time. Last year I noticed shade was a big commodity. High wing guys in the camping area would stretch a tarp over the wing and tie off the ends, made for great shade. Plus, the wings were obviously high enough to sit under with a chair.
Does anyone have suggestions of the best way to create shade with the RV?
You can imagine space is limited for packing.

Bring an air mattress

Cant remember where we bought these umbrella clip ons but they have been a great asset while watching the airshow everyday!

I'm not sure why but I cant seem to make my images show up when using google pics. I normally use Tinypic but I'm at work and my internet provider blocks Tinypic thinking it is a porn site.

Do bring an air mattress. Some of the years that I've been to OSH have been very very wet. What was it... 2014 or 15 where it was coined "slosh-kosh".

If you are going to use something like this, please be sure to set it up so that it does not block the taxiway lanes on either side of your airplane. It really needs to remain within the airplane's footprint, ie. not stick out further than the rudder. That might get pretty tight in the parking rows.

Also ensure that it is sufficiently tied down for storms, lest it become a projectile aimed at someone's airplane. Or take it down for bad weather.

Shade

Folding tent poles, two with a tarp and tie downs. Easy to fold up and don't take up much room and they are light. Take them down ever time you leave or something will get damaged.
