Our world traveler

flying styles

I tried to get out of the house Saturday in my comfortable shorts... tall white socks and a good shirt. NO WAY
Vlad must be single... or his girlfriend is away when he packs.
How is it that Australians can wear tall white socks and a jaunty hat and still look cool?

Ever been to DisneyWorld?

Vlad's just trying to be a good American tourist!:D Besides, that's the way they dress over in Jersey. :D
On another note.... hope he's taking lots of Photo's. Looks like he's circling Devils Tower now.
What a trip! GO VLAD GO!

Priorities

He's got his priorities right....more money for fuel instead of those designer clothes! Can't wait to see the photo's!

Vlad tends to take such great pictures giving a story of every trip, I hope he took several memory cards with him (or a laptop to transfer the pictures on). I'm looking forward to seeing his pictures and reading his stories :D

looks like vlad made a good choice for over night. holiday inn and casinos across the street from the airport.

Vlad the Gadabout!

Looks like he put on an airshow over the Drummond Island Airport. Now it looks like he's headed toward Oshkosh. Did anyone tell him he's about a week early?

P.S. From the Merriam Webster online dictionary:

"Gadabout - a person who goes to many places and social events for pleasure"

Sounds like Vlad to me! :D

Anyone want to fly up to Alaska?

Just a sample to get you excited for the trip story when Vladabout gets home.

Vladabout is getting ready to hit the skys again. We are off for breakfast and then he will be back in the air to who knows where.

I wonder if he knows yet that he now has an American nickname. :)

We saw that last night and he got a good laugh about it. He said he was on his way to the Smokies - but not sure exactly where.

One thing to mention - he bought me breakfast today!!

Vladabout's Whereabouts

Looks like he has paid tribute to Orville and Wilbur and also circled the Air Force Museum in Dayton this morning. Right now he's in southern Kentucky and approaching Tennessee. It does indeed appear that his destination is somewhere near the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Maybe he'll stop at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation at the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge airport (KGKT). Or perhaps he'll drop in and say HI to Brian Chasteen (Brantel).

This guy's a machine!

It has been great fun watching this trip, can't wait to see the report.

Is there a thread anywhere about how many of us have met Vlad and where it was we met him? He's been here twice to Stanley Nova Scotia of all places ( but then so was the RV-1:)) I enjoy tracking him. I have neither the time or the gas money, let alone the nerve for any such adventure. I'm honored to have been able to give him free food though. ::D

Asheville, NC

Just checked in on the Russian's track, and he came within 20 miles of my airport this afternoon... and I'm just sitting in the hangar with the plane. I knew something felt off. Had I realized the threat was inbound I would have been duty-bound to intercept at Jackson County NC, where he looks to have landed. It's a sad day for Asheville RVers, having let this blatant penetration of our airspace go unchallenged.

Before taking off today, Vladabout had 80 hours since he left on the 3rd. I know he had a few days where he didn't fly at all, so that is a LONG time flying in some pretty c rappy weather with no auto pilot!

Looking at his tracks reminds me of a Movie Quote

Russian sometime turn suddenly to see if anyone's behind them. We call it "Crazy Ivan."

Vlad have great time and we will see you soon, if you every come back to the east coast! :D

Tracking Vlad

I think there is a certain grass strip in Vlad's very near future !

... care to comment, Marvin ?

Yes Glen, I have been tracking Vlad all over the country. Imagine my surprise to find an APRS track in my backyard when I thought the man was in Alaska:)
Just how fast is that -9? If only I had been able to be home....

Maybe he needs clean socks and underwear!

This is what is needed as gust locks in Alaska.

Our world Traveler

" And so the end of another epic journey by our intrepid traveler"

Welcome back back Vlad , I am eagerly awaiting the trip report.

Mission accomplished

It took two weeks and almost 97 hours on the Hobbs. Airplane and pilot were pushed to their limits. Airplane performed flawlessly without a single hiccup I couldn't say the same about the driver :D

Special thanks to;

Rockwood9 you brought me good luck brother. You pushed me out of the nest a day earlier and it was the right choice. And I finished the major portion of the trip where I started - at Lansing, MI...

Humptybump, Glen thank you for the valuable intel on the go. Thank you for your virtual Trip Headquarters, advice and suggestions. It wouldn't be that smooth without your help.

Thank you Bryan Douglass of Missoula, JackM and Jim of Prosser WA. I owe you big time.

Thank you Bruce and Crystal Stamper for turning me around and entertaining for two days. Who knows where I would end if I pressed back to Yakutat in that bad even for Alaskans weather.

Greg and Julia Arehart - picturesque place and nice guest house in British Columbia. My hat is off to you. You brought oil for my plane from CONUS I am very glad I have such friends.

August and Bonnie Lehmann if you are reading this I'll never forget your flying ranch at Dawson Creek, BC. Please accept my gratitude.

The Sterlings, Glen and Connie of Hulett, WY. I know it was a trap and Glen mastered it very well. Enjoyed time by the Devils Tower with both of you. Will be back in two years.

It may take a while to digest what happened during those couple weeks but I promise you all a slide show with subtitles. It will be vetted of course but not much. Stay tuned :D

Instead of sleeping and decompressing you pressed on and made sure you thanked all you VAF friends!

I think I would have passed out in the hangar!

Vlad, BrahDa! You are one class act!

Thanks for sharing the trip and I can't wait to see the adventure.

You had a lot of energy here pulling for you. Welcome home. Can't wait to here the dirty details. Bravo. :)

Vlad welcome back, we will have to get together with the usual PA crew to get the full stories. :D

So glad to hear you had a successful trip. I'm sure you know that you inspire others like myself. I look forward to seeing more about your trip and hope to meet you at Oshkosh :D

I've been in that joint.

Was talking to FSS for a briefing and to file a flight plan. Meanwhile the noise in the background was straight out of the Star Wars bar scene. FSS was audibly suspicious of my fitness for flight...

BTW, also in there is the Alaska Airlines ticket counter.

Guess where he stayed?
