Riveting canopy side rails.

I am thinking about using 470AD5 rivets in place of the 815-8R8's in the five foward postions on each side. I weighed the hardware and found it would save a little over an ounce (an ounce here, an ounce there adds up). For time cost it's a way better deal than drilling all them lightening holes in the C-805 slide cap spacer.

Anyone think of a reason I would ever need to remove the side rails? Or any other reason why I shouldn't rivet them?

One reason that would deem possible removal down the road is wear. Everytime you open and close the canopy the rides in those rails. I don't know if they would ever wear enough to deem replacement down the road but that is one reason that vans maybe decided to not rivet them in the first place. Possibly??? Just a thought.

You may wish that you had put the screws in when you try to buck AD5 rivets though!! :D
