Finished my instrument panel in preperation for finishing my IFR ticket. Hood time already started with my CFII. :)

Going to do it in the RV I built!

Honest Question

(At risk of showing my own ignorance) Is that DYNON approved for IFR Flight? Or just IFR Training? Or does it really matter?

Common question. The Dynon itself is not approved for IFR work by itself. However, the GNS-430W is and it feeds the HSI on the Dynon which is perfectly legal to do.

What we did.

Great flight to Big Bear in our RV10 and Ali’s 8, Thelma’s for Breakfast

Since I can't afford the gas prices, @ $7.50G, I sat inside my plane closed my eyes and pretended I am flying.

Took a Horizon Hobby Eflite RV7 and made a mini me. Well almost…

Flew local for coffee and doughnuts and helped a friend give a pitch to a EAA chapter on building a RV homebuilt, then spent an hour with a Redbird 172 simulator trying to learn the G1000 as part of working on my instrument rating. Not quite as intuitive as I had hoped.

I gave a friend his first small plane/RV ride. The next day he texted me saying it was the coolest thing he’s done since he retired. 👍🏻

Mud swirls at Canvasback point

Checking out the mud swirls at the intersection of Sandusky Bay and Muddy Creek Bay while on dawn patrol Saturday morning. The Canadians still haven’t invaded.

My First Fly-In!

Following the suggestion of friend and hangar neighbor Mike Hull, I flew to Mason-Jewett (KTEW) and attended the EAA Chapter 55 Dawn Patrol Pancake Breakfast. Lots of people and cool airplanes there, and we were both... or so I was told. I could get used to this... good times!

My fuselage finally grew legs and got rolled out into the fresh air for all the airport neighbors to appreciate.

Finally got a full weekend of flying in after being down for 6 weeks replacing the canopy! She still needs paint, but there was flying to be done!

Flew two friends in the RV10 to Big Cedar Lodge to meet up with 5 other buddies for an epic golf trip. If you've never been to Big Cedar Lodge (Branson MO) it's an AWESOME ressort!

Looks great Jereme! Nice work. Good luck with the final IFR training, you will do well brother!

WEEKEND ACTIVITY

I always love to take people for their first RV ride, and it’s even better when it’s their first ride in a light aircraft.

I had the pleasure of introducing Thomas (pics below) for his first flight in a light aircraft. He’s 18 years old and trying to figure out what to do for a career. So, Thomas – “here’s your sign.”

We did a little touring before heading to Cedar Mills for lunch. It was on Thursday (or as us retired people say, every day is Saturday).

We had the whole air strip to ourselves and despite being hazy, was calm winds and a smooth landing.

I think, and hope, Thomas liked the trip.

Chris

First trip with the little woman to see the in-laws down in Toulouse. Just under 2 hours each way, and picked up a nice tailwind on the way down.

EPIC weekend

Pretty EPIC weekend.....I got the feet on the airplane.....initial fire-up and smoke test for the avionics....and hung the engine. All this wouldn't have been possible without the help of my friend Ralph!:)

I also put my fuselage up on it's legs at this early state. A move I regretted all the way through. With it up that high you now have to climb up on something and then bend way over to get at all the work that needs to be done inside the fuse, including the instrument panel work.

It is WAY more convenient to keep it closer to the floor with stands under the wooden main spar inserts.

Good luck!

Work inside the fuselage is mostly done at this point. Panel isn't installed at the moment but is complete and has been tested - with the exception of engine-related stuff, of course. The motivation for installing the legs was to be ready to hang the engine and generally work on FWF stuff.

I was kind of surprised honestly, with it on the legs I find it just as easy - maybe easier - to reach inside to do work, but that's probably because I'm a pretty tall dude.
