MAP with engine power well over 100%

Hello,

I have now started flight testing my newly built RV14 which has a suite of Garmin avionics.

I notice that the percentage power indication near the Manifold Pressure dial on the G3X shows a value over 100% (ie reaching a maximum of 146% at one point).

I presume this is not normal. I would be grateful of any suggestion to solve the problem.

Regards John

I am guessing that you did not configure the engine parameters correctly in config mode, assuming that your map reads near barometric pressure with the engine off.

Though it's a bit more complicated, this is a quick rule of thumb I use to calculate engine power; you can easily cross check your own engine with this:

%PWR = (RPM/2700)*(MAP/30)

2500 x 25" ~ 75%
2300 x 23" ~ 65%

I did set up my G3X as a Lyc 180 HP engine, and it matches this rule of thumb pretty well while ROP.

Sounds like a G3X engine config issue.
