Garmin Autopilot: GSA 28 Roll Servo

Would someone please share installed photos (I couldn't find any with the search)? I'm specifically interested in how the bracket lays against the spar web and how much room there is between the servo and the spar web.

Thanks,

Paul

Walt,

I reviewed the manual and I didn't see any installation photos, only the attached drawing. Unfortunately, I'm deviating from the plans and want to make sure I'm not going to run into trouble down the line and the drawings don't answer my question. I may have to order the instal kit/servo to mock it up.

Paul

Hi, Paul. These aren't great, but it's like living on Hoth in CO right now and it's the best I can do without going out and opening the wing up. Maybe someone else will chime in with better photos for you (you should be able to zoom in on the area in question).

The bracket is flat against the spar web, taking the place of the lower bellcrank bracket (just longer and extended outboard) with the flange pointing towards the inspection hole, and IIRC the servo sits against the spar when mounted in the bracket.

This is from my 8. The servo is very close to the spar and the mount is on the spar. If you are trying to route something under the servo, there isn’t much room.

Webb, make sure you install a large-diameter washer on the outboard side of that bolt too. You have one on the inboard side already. This is to prevent the rod end from slipping off the bolt in case the ball separates from its housing.

Thanks Peter. It’s ironic that the 8 has 2 washers and the generic view and the some of the other RVs only have one. I suspect it’s safe but since I did see it in the drawings for the 8, I will add it.

Great catch and thanks.

Thanks guys. Great catch. Will correct before I do anything else.

I thought I better check the pitch servo and it is correct.

RV7 install... (maybe I didn't take my medication today, but I think the OP asked about RV7 pitch servo?)

Sure is easier to fix sitting on a stool in front of a wing cradle instead of laying on a creeper.

Fixed.

The lower mounting bolts are just far enough away from the spar to clear the bend radius of the bracket. Significantly closer to the spar than the bellcrank pivot bolt

Thank you all for the photos; it looks like it's going to work out. I'll have to order to parts to make 100% sure but it gives me confidence to proceed forward as planned.
