Carb bracket and mixture cable problem

I am working on my RV7 with an O360. The throttle cable works but it is backed out almost all the way from the carb bracket but it does work. The mixture cable needs to be mounted farther away from the carb to work, in other words, the bracket needs to extend about 1 more inch away from the carb. Shortening the cable end would work but the sheath would also need to be shortened to allow it to retract far enough. both cables seem like they could use a little more overall length so they are not stretched almost tight. If the bracket was a little longer, it would probably solve both these problems. It looks like I am going to modify the bracket but just wondering why I need to. I have a MA 4-5 carb. Has anyone ran into this issue.

Have similar condition with my setup on -9A w/ O-320 carb.
I believe safety-wiring the nuts will solve any concern. Ideas?
