Default Night VFR Question

2011 RV12 with lighting kit. Our CFI stating the plane is not night legal, because there is no solid, rear-facing white light. He says the white strobes on the wingtips do not count. How are others handling this issue?

Your CFI is correct that you must have a solid rear facing white light.

The Aeroled Pulsar NSP tip position/strobes should have a solid white light facing aft. What tip lights do you have?

Correct.

Turn on nav. lights only (no strobes), at night and stand behind the airplane. You should see a white light on the back of each wing tip. The regulation doesn't require it to be a single while light source at the rear of the airplane. Only that the white light be visible on a 140 degree arc around the back of the airplane. This can be met by placing one on each wing tip.

Question is pretty well-answered, but just for depth....

The white rear-facing light requirement is a Position Light, not an Anti-Collision light. The strobes are considered part of the anti-collision lighting.

91.205 contains the specific language for it. Many wingtip position/strobe combos ALSO have a rear-facing position light, like the pulsars mentioned above.
