Since so many of you have interest in the G3X Touch system and have interests outside of E-AB aircraft as well , I wanted to let you know that Garmin has received AML STC on nearly 500 single engine aircraft models. Check out the Garmin website to see a full list of the supported models.
https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/682215

The G3X Touch offers a variety of scalable panel configurations and a superior feature set that includes Primary Flight Display (PFD), Multi-Function Display (MFD) and optional Engine Information System (EIS). Wireless connectivity and synthetic vision come as standard, as well as options such as display redundancy, advanced autopilot compatibility, and affordable databases.

The G3X Touch system is representative of Garmin’s experience in integrated flight deck technology, boasting a clean and sleek appearance and a resilient, high-resolution display which has proven itself in thousands of installations in experimental aircraft. The touchscreen offers an intuitive user-friendly interface. Through any combination of the touchscreen or dual-concentric knobs, pilots can efficiently perform common in-flight functions like direct-to navigation, setting altitude pre-select or radio tuning. Pilots will also appreciate the seamless in-flight experience behind G3X Touch as the user interface is harmonious with multiple Garmin products, such as the new GPS 175/GNX™ 375 and GTN™ 650/750 navigators.

Garmin offers four different display configurations.

Each G3X Touch system includes a GSU 25D ADAHRS, GMU 11 Magnetometer, GTP 59 OAT Probe, and installation/connector kits. Adding EIS for a 4-cylinder engine starts at $3000 and adding EIS for a 6-cylinder engine starts at $3400. The EIS system includes the GEA 24 engine interface, engine probes, and sensors. The GDL 50R, 51R, and 52R series of ADS-B and SXM receivers is also included in the AML STC as an option starting at $795. All products installed under the Garmin AML STC have received PMA.

The G3X Touch suite offers an impressive array of standard features that give pilots greater situational awareness throughout every phase of flight. Synthetic vision (SVX™) comes standard on all G3X Touch displays. Capable of serving as a standalone VFR navigator, the G3X Touch provides benefits that help further situational awareness in visual conditions with features like vertical navigation (VNAV). Wireless connectivity is also available as standard. Wireless flight plan transfer, the sharing of traffic, weather, back-up attitude information and more with a compatible tablet or smartphone are all available via Garmin Connext®

The G3X Touch flight certificated system can interface with a variety of optional equipment including:

• For complete IFR-approach compatibility, customers can pair the G3X Touch with up to two Garmin GPS navigators and Nav/Comms, including the new GPS 175/GNX 375, GTN 650/750, GNS™ 430W/530W, GNS 480, SL 30/40, and GNC® 255.

• The GFC 500 autopilot integrates seamlessly with the G3X Touch certified system and provides a state-of-the-art 3 axis autopilot with integrated electric pitch trim. The GFC 500 AML STC has been updated to include the G3X Touch as an attitude source and display of flight director for the GFC 500 autopilot. The GFC 500 does not require the G5 electronic flight instrument when installed with G3X Touch. The GFC 500 is currently available as an option for select models of the Beechcraft Bonanza, Cessna 172/182/210, Grumman AA-5, Mooney M20 and the Piper PA-28 with additional certifications in progress. For a comprehensive list of supported aircraft, visit www.garmin.com/GFC500.

• Fly fully-coupled instrument and visual approaches when the G3X Touch is paired with the GFC 500 autopilot and a GPS 175/GNX 375 or GTN 650/750. If you don’t break out, you can fly fully-coupled go-arounds during missed approach sequencing.

• The G5 electronic flight instrument can be utilized as an all-in-one back-up instrument2 to the G3X Touch flight display, offering superior redundancy and the sharing of attitude information, air data, baro sync, and miscompare alerts. In the event of failed source between the G3X Touch and G5 attitude or air data sources, the GFC 500 autopilot will choose the best available source and continue to function normally.

• Pilots can receive and display the benefits ADS-B In via the new GNX 375, GTX™ 345 or the GDL® 50R/52R. ADS-B-enabled features such as patented TargetTrend™ and TerminalTraffic™ are also available with these products.

• With the GDL 51R/52R, pilots can receive and display SiriusXM aviation weather and listen to audio entertainment with a compatible subscription.

• VFR sectionals and IFR enroute charts display pertinent information pertaining to VFR/IFR flights, and geo-referenced instrument approaches improve situational awareness by overlaying own-ship position information on the instrument approach chart.
• Up to two Comm radios can be supported and controlled by G3X Touch, including the GNC 255 Nav/Comm and the GTR 225 Comm, as well as the GTN 650/750.

• Display primary engine information with the addition of the GEA 24 and applicable engine sensors. The EIS system includes engine gauges with color bands, alerts, a fuel computer and other vital information. Piston engines of up to 6 cylinders are supported.

• When interfaced to a compatible Garmin transponder, the G3X Touch offers transponder control and display using the large touchscreen interface.

• The GTS 800 active traffic system can interface with G3X Touch, offering added protection and visibility while operating in high-density airspace and traffic environments.

Your G3X Touch Certified system can be purchased and installed through the Garmin Authorized Dealer network. There is no additional cost for the STC. Deliveries for new orders are expected to begin in early April. Come and see the G3X Touch at the Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-In & Expo, Apr. 2-7, 2019 in Lakeland, Florida.

Thanks,
Levi Self

would it be fair to assume now that the software release cycles will slow to molasses?

or will you maintain a separate software branch for experimental?

As an experimental user, I'm hoping the latter, as an investor/shareholder, i would say the first is the likely scenario

No, we are not expecting any slow down of software features. The G3X Touch will follow the same process for how we currently do G5 software. Team X continues to move forward with software for E-AB and our certification team lags a little behind with the certification aspects.

We are getting ready to release new G3X Touch software this week which has some new features not yet available to the certified G3X Touch customers. E-AB will always get the newest features!

If you have followed along for the past couple of years, the G5 feature set has expanded greatly since it was certified. A larger user base is a good thing!

Thanks,
Levi Self

G3X Non-Touch

Any update on the availability of a software update to the G3X non-touch product to enable the most recent GTN vertical navigation capability?

G3Xpert,

You don?t mention the GDU 450 7? Landscape display for the certified aircraft.

Is that product goin to be phased out?

Thanks for the great product upgrades!

Very cool!

Levi/G3xpert, what's the difference between the certified GSU-25D and the experimental GSU-25?

Figures! I just finished installing two G5's, GMA 350, GTN 650, GNC 255, GTX 345, GAD 29B, and GMU 11 in a Cessna 150. And now Garmin has a G3X Touch for Certified. I haven't seen the AML yet, but...

Please don't read too much into this. Certifying each display takes significant effort! Using the sales numbers and layout options we know which models are the most popular and certifiable with the least amount of work. We want to leverage our efforts in an efficient manner. The GDU 45X, 46X, and 470 all share software and are all part of the same family.

Thanks,
Levi

The GSU 25D has a PMA, the other GSU 25 models do not. The performance specifications are similar to the GSU 25B. It is otherwise the same interfaces, connectors, and form factor as the other GSU 25 models.

Thanks,
Levi

I now make sense of the huge development efforts by Garmin in the last 12 months: thanks to the 2018 and 2019 software releases, the G3X Touch, G5 and GTN750 in my plane went overnight from being inferior to a 2008 G1000, to being on par if not better. I'm talking in particular of: 1) vertical navigation for GTN fully integrated with G3X/G5/AP and able to descent to ANY waypoint at ANY constant angle input by the pilot (DIY ILS), 2) "rubber band" flightplan touch function for GTN and G3X, 3) published VFR approaches for GTN fully integrated with G3X/G5/AP), 4) G5 able to replace the G3X as HSI and GS indicator for ILS (beside being also an additional adhars/AI). Well done Garmin!
Like others, I'm curious of what's the difference between the G3X and other certified Garmin PFDs (G500 etc..). Available to share my experience on the G3X side for such comparison.

I've had a bit of a look through what I can find, and can't seem to see if the STC deems the G3X systems as primary replacements for engine and flight instruments.

If an owner chooses to install a G3X, with the EIS, what other instruments will be required to remain in the panel as well?

EDIT: for IFR, up the install manual says you need backup attitude ASI & altitude which may be a G5 - but I didn't think the G5 was certified for use beyond attitude & DG yet?
