18 year old harnesses - keep or replace, and how to evaluate.

My -8A has harnesses labeled as Pacific Aero Harness. I believe they are original - the plane was completed in 2004. They appear and feel in good condition, and the plane has been hangared since at least 2008. As best I can tell, the company is defunct.

What indicators will say to replace them?

Race car sanctioning bodies usually require belt replacement every 5 years.

Webbing does degrade with time but 5 years is probably overly conservative and the risk of accidents is greater in a race car.

If your webbing is faded, or frayed, or been in the airplane a long time, you might consider replacing, or re-webbing them at least.

It's really up to you to make the decision that you feel is right.

For not much $ Crow can build you a new set of super nice harnesses. Good company
