Dynon SkyView Transponder Update for ADS-B

This posting applies if you have a Dynon SkyView Transponder being supplied with ADS-B GPS position data from a GNS430/W.

I recently recieved a PM from a gentleman at the FAA advising that my ADS-B position reports were jumping around, with errors up to 1/2 mile. I had previously applied the DYNON version 10.1 update but neglected one important step as spelled out in the update instructions.

Normally all of the attached Dynon modules are updated automatically when new SkyView firmware is installed, but the Transponder update must be initiated MANUALLY from the Transponder Setup page.

When the Transponder Setup page is displayed, allow time for the system to detect and queue the software update. Then press the button to initiate it. The Transponder will have to be power-cycled following the update.

Only then will the Dynon Transponder be updated with the lastest software containing the fix for the ADS-B position reports. To make sure the Transponder has been updated correctly, verify that the Transponder Status line indicates SW 2.04.

Also, be sure to configure your serial output from the GNS430W to the ADS-B format and not ADS-B+.

This posting http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=114203 describes how to obtain an ADS-B system check from the FAA.
