Hey guys,

A few months ago I was brought on board to beta test the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 version of the RV8. These guys are working hard to create a virtual version of the RV8, and make it fly as true to life as possible.

They have asked me to put the call out to more real life RV8 pilots to help out with the testing. They've been very receptive to the input from the handful of pilots they have ATM, but we are all busy so they are looking for a few more.

If you are a simmer, please take a look!

Moe,

Not a sim guy, but we have a fully-instrumented RV-4 we use for AOA/energy management flight test. We record data at 50Hz and integrate GNSS/INS, EFIS and air data boom in a single file. We play back certain elements with X Plane for debrief or training purposes. Happy to share data files or record a specific profile if it will help you out.

Here's the RV-4 camouflaged as a C-172 to demonstrate a departure from controlled flight in the base turn:

Drop a PM if there is anything we can do to help.

Cheers,

Moe,
Not a simmer, but that's some impressive detail on that RV! This industry indubitably has come a long way from it's humble beginnings!

I was getting my ratings & instructing at VNY in the 70's, there was a quiet guy who had a C-210 on our flight school line. Every now & again a guy named Charlie would wander in & take it for a ride, then disappear for a few weeks. We'd ask him how it was going trying to start a dialog, do some hangar flying. He'd offer some nebulous answer none of us understood & go on his way.

One day he started to illuminate his work. We knew he worked kitty-corner to our flight office in an old hangar. Little by little, Charlie started speaking in terms we could grasp. Computers were the rage but hadn't really become mainstream yet. It turns out he was in a new field he called computer graphics & visual effects. Charlie finally revealed he was working on a new movie. No big deal we thought. Anyone working at VNY or BUR was used being in proximity to Hollywood, it's stars & staff was nothing new to us. Many flew out of there for fun or business. Even I had instructed some. The hangar Charlie worked in had a nondescript sign that read ILM & the street number painted on. Yet the sign had a certain quality to it & looked like something you might even see in a B&W 1940's picture. You know the scene where the detective comes across the femme fatale in a foggy alley...

Well, ILM turned out to be Industrial Light & Magic (George Lucas). The movie was a little picture you might have heard of; Star Wars.
My computer nerd roommates had to see what all the fuss was about & we saw it at it's premiere, 2nd showing down at Grauman's Chinese Theater. From the moment I literally sank down in my seat as the Imperial Star Destroyer flew into the scene, CG movies (including simulation) were never the same...

Moe, well done & keep expanding the envelope!
