Gouge in starter housing

Just discovered my cowling has rubbed rubbed a 1" long by fairly deep gouge in the extended gear housing of my skytec starter.

Any reason I shouldn't just fill this in with a bit of JB Weld?

Any yes, I have corrected the rubbing.

can't offer much without a picture. However, JB weld will not add back a lot of structural strength. If the gouge is deep enough to create a risk of structural cracking, JB weld won't prevent that from happening.
