James cowl, forward facing induction questions

Here's a couple questions for those of you with james cowls. I am using their forward facing induction(MK3 I believe it is) and am wondering with a 3 blade prop while dropping the cowl straight down what do you do with the neoprene sleeve on the MK3? I haven't made the sleeve to fit yet. Do you just slide it forward or backward to remove the cowl?
Also at the rear of the cowl did you brace the bottom like in the plans for the Vans cowl?

My induction sleeve slips over easily even if the cowl is all the way on. There is about a 3/4" gap between the cowl ring and the intake cone. I have a 6A so my cowl is much more difficult to get on a a non -A model.
