Manual flaps?

Is there a precident for manual flaps on a RV-8? I remember on the -6's it used to be an option. What about for the -8's? Also, would it be possible to fabricate your own system using pieces from an old -6 system? Thanks for the help and Merry Chirstmas.

The problem with putting manual flaps in the RV-8/8A is the location of the flap control arm. This arm hinges _behind_ the rear seat. You could potentially convert this system to a manual mechanism, but you would need to extend the flap control arm forward by 3-4' to allow the pilot to grab the control handle. Seems a lot easier just to use the electric flaps that are supplied with the kit.
