Downtown Chicago - sun rising

Once in awhile you get a decent photo, 11/15, Sat morning 8AM. 2200 ft and airliners passing over for Midway 22L. I received one good downwash thump.

VFR ALTITUDES FOR NEW MDW ARRIVAL FLOW FROM EAST

CANCELLATION: February 5, 2016

Chicago TRACON will begin a new arrival flow for Midway (MDW)
airport on February 6, 2014. During times that MDW airport is
operating on this configuration, MDW arrivals will cross the
Lake Michigan shoreline (from Navy Pier to Gary/Chicago Int'l.
airport) between 3,000 feet and 2,400 feet, inbound to runway 22L.
When transitioning the Chicago Metropolitan area along the
Lake Michigan shoreline, VFR aircraft are advised that lower
altitudes are strongly suggested whenever MDW is on a runway
22L configuration.

MDW ATIS frequency - 132.75 or call (773) 581-9967.

That view never gets old! It does seem like the big boys are right on top when they are landing 22. Chicago App had us down pretty low this summer!

Hey Pete. Nice pics. I used to take a lot of pics when I was a renter of a Skyhawk. But now, in the RV-7, I get soooo much glare on the canopy, I don't even bother to try. It seems like you solved this problem somehow. Want to share? Thanks. Andy

Hey Andy,

Nothing too special - we use a litttle canon point and shoot for most of the photos. I do sometimes crop a photo if it is a good shot and there is a hot spot on the canopy.

I use picasa for managing photos, it works just fine for my lower end needs and the price is nice.....free.

Pete, that puts my photo to shame - look at the great colors! the flyby was a big thrill for me because it was my first time.

it seems the backwards looking views can have less glare.

Thanks guys. Yes, I've noticed that about the backward view too. Also, my go-to window is just in front of the slider rollbar.

I use a P&S as well, but I have a Nikon DSLR and 28mm lens I like so I figured I'd try that with a polarizer. But the polarizer is too difficult to deal with when you are flying and trying to look through a view finder. I didn't bring that camera on any other trips.
