Revised Step Installation Notification 16-10-14
For anyone who has replaced their steps:
The “Synopsis” part in Notification 16-10-14 states, “Some RV-12 steps have failed…”
1. Besides having a crack, how severe was the “failure” of your step? Did the step fracture completely, permanently deform, or what caused you to replace the steps?
2. Did you or someone get injured or fall as a result of the “failure”?
I’m asking because I have a slight (1/16” - 1/8” long) crack only on the thin fairing part on the pilot side step which appears to exactly match the crack referenced in the notification. The crack opens slightly under loading. I am thinking about just monitoring the crack and see whether the step deforms permanently. Unless someone tells me that the failure they experienced caused them to fall.

Replace the step.
Similar story.
You got the bulletin, you found the crack. What are the odds that it is ok? According to many posts, they break suddenly.

Does anyone have a picture of one that has a crack? I would like to see exactly where the crack is forming.

That is not a picture of a crack, it is showing where it will occur.
